January 27, 1978

While in Vancouver a few weeks back I spent some time in their main downtown library -- wow. What a collection! Six floors worth. I spent a few hours looking at old newspapers on microfiche, including the Victoria Colonist issue from my birthday:

Note the CFAX ad, featuring the well-groomed afro of one Terry Spence:

... yeah right, that will never happen.

... 31-year-old car of the year. I'm holding up better than most of these.

... I hope they make a sequel.

Real estate section, Gordon Head, where the Schmitz house is, also the area where Bethy's grandparents lived:

Hmmm, this could be a good investment:

And a few days later, February 1st, came the big announcement:
That one below mine, Heather Ritchie, is a girl who lived two doors down. We were neighbourhood pals for a while, her mom watched Robyn and I after school, kind of a neat discovery there.

Wow! Pretty cool! I am impressed that you were able to find your own birth announcement.

I remember I had a day to spend at that library many years ago. It was awesome. I learned all about JPEG compression, gif compression, the history of image compression and where it was going. It changed my blogging forever!
