No Food in Nine Days (warning: a bit gross)

So I figure I should write about what's going on with me right now. Maybe we'll go retro later.

The past week and a half, my life has revolved around an unusual diet; a process called the "Master Cleanse". Something I heard about years ago, but haven't had the chance to try. I'm not working right now, so the timing was good. One needs to be pretty focused on this to succeed.

The idea is to remove as much of the toxin-laden plaque from the intestinal walls as possible, by ingesting only the ingredients pictured here (lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, water), plus warm salt water and a "special" herbal tea. Let me tell you, it's been tough -- but worth it. I've been able to eliminate plenty of pretty odd stuff from my insides. Stuff that can't be good to carry around, that's for sure. Did you know they found 50 pounds of this gunk inside John Wayne after he died?!

I feel better generally, and have suddenly dropped 10 pounds. My senses of smell and taste are sharper, and my usually dry-skinned hands are looking healthier. They say your energy level is much improved afterwards too. I'm just now easing back on to regular food, so that will take a few days yet. Bethy and I are trying to eat better after our pretty greasy X-Canada road trip, and I figured this would be a great way to get started. She wants to do it too, but probably not until next summer when the school year is through.

You would think no food for a week would really slow you down, but it hasn't. I've been able to operate fairly normally -- even hitting the ice three times, plus some swimming and walking. The mixture seemed to leave me with enough energy to do these things. I'm not my usual self of course, but I've not been a slug all the time either.

I've been craving pizza, wings and Big Macs, especially in these final few days. And that hot dog post yesterday was a bit of a test! Once I'm back in business, there's a spaghetti feast at my parent's place Sunday night -- boy, that will be awesome! After that, I'll have to indulge in some of these cravings, and then join Bethy on the good food train. I'm no health nut, never have been, but this has been relatively easy for the payoff it's producing. I would recommend it to anyone.

Hey I've been meaning to do this cleanse for years, but honestly have lacked the willpower. Maybe I'll try it soon?

Hi Grandson Steve,

Great effort. While I am two generations removed from some of your verbiage I find it interesting at how you view the world and what is going on around you.

I will watch your blog with interest.

Best of luck,

Grandpa Jim
