Home Improvement
Bethy's folks are up from Vic for three nights, with an aim to start getting the yard together (weeded, soil ground up for next season). They were forced inside by rain, but managed to get one side of the house weeded and cleaned up. Also, Ray and I are installing a dishwasher in the kitchen. No photo of that yet because we've made a super mess of it, but like Ray says, you can't make an omelet without breaking the kitchen.
I started a new job today, at a café here on Denman. Working part time as the front guy -- he who brings out food, clears tables, pours coffee, and makes their famous milkshakes. A few weeks back, Bethy and I were in for a baked goodie and met the owner. As soon as he learned we'd just moved to the island, he asked if we wanted work. Yes please! This will fit the bill for a while. P/T means I can still spend time on the house for much of my days, especially when Mrs. Ireland is back teaching and I need things to keep me busy. In the medium term, we want to replace the carpet and paint pretty much the whole interior. I'll be trying to land another p/t gig on-island, while I await word on my BC Ferries application. Here are a few pics of the yard, featuring Griffin the Wonder Dog, co-starring Ray:
