Unchained Blog Entry

A great place to watch the sunset (best free show in town) is the top level of the Yates St. parkade. A great view of the city in all directions from up there, much of it rooftops. We were up there last week after a great dinner out at the Black Olive. We took some photos up there and enjoyed the transition from day to night. Love that time of day, on both ends in fact. One of the best parts of an early morning shift at work is starting in the dark and watching the city slowly light up. When we painted our home last year, we used that shade of day-to-night blue in the bedroom. We're big fans of the blue. Well, my first choice of red-white-gold with a flaming border was vetoed by the Bethy. But midnight blue works for me too.

Just finished a run of said early shifts, and I'm glad it's through for another week. It's been a nutty week overall, what with Bethy and I both away through the weekend. She, back to work Tuesday and myself starting up a new hockey season Monday night -- we haven't seen much of each other for a week. But we spent a nice night together last night and got a great sleep. I skipped the late Tuesday hockey game, good move. Allowed us the evening at home together, and let me to rest up a bit. I was much sharper at work today than yesterday -- coffee can only take you so far.

What a crazy news day Tuesday with that Oak Bay deal. I was on the desk, envious of the reporters who were on scene covering things in person. Luck of the draw though. Nice to be on the front edge of a story like that. Started off as a traffic disruption for a police incident, then it became clear something big was going down as information started to trickle in. The full scope of the thing was all over the national news before too long. We may not have had the most comprehensive coverage, but we had it first! That's what I love about radio, very little delay in getting the word out, if any.

We watched a cool movie last night, called 'Cashback'. British film about a young insomiac artist who decides if he can't sleep, he may as well work at an overnight supermarket. That kicks off a chain of events that takes a bit of imagination to get into. Had a bit of a Trainspotting feel, though no druggy content at all. We liked it, two thumbs up from the Fasterlands.
