Weekend Update

Last night, we had a lovely walk to the beach right before bedtime. The sun was down and the sky was a deepening blue. As we walked through the tunnel of trees that is the road leading to our beach, we noticed a yellowish glow through the branches -- my first thought was it looked like a street lamp, but duh! None of those on Denman. Still shaking off those city boy impulses, I guess it will take a while. Obviously it was the full moon! Very low on the horizon, it had just risen and was a captivating sight just a few degrees over Hornby. I wanted to run back and get the camera, but Bethy stopped me. One needs not to capture absolutely everything on camera after all, and it would have been a few minutes darker by the time I'd returned. Instead, we just found a spot on the beach and soaked it all in.

I went back down this morning at sunrise time, right after Bethy had to go meet her new carpool group. This time I brought the camera and snapped the above of my walking stick crest and my trusty Flames mug, which makes a great large coffee container. This is also the mug I will be sipping champagne from next June.

We hosted a great family event at our place over the weekend, the birthday party for our 3-year-old cousin Josie who lives in Comox -- her mommy Tammy and daddy Tony, big sister Mya, and their grandma Kiersten was visiting from Saskatchewan. Also Kyle from Vancouver, he came over and helped out big time by taking care of the yard work while I finished painting inside the house. The party was a hoot -- Dora the Explorer everywhere, including a piñata that took a severe beating from the children. Once the kids were in bed, we had a fire in the yard well into the evening. Pancakes and French toast in the morning, along with a special birthday song from "Uncle Steve" (cousin by marriage, technically). It was a wonderful time indeed, we were thrilled to play hosts! Here are some pics:
These are long days at home by myself sometimes, but there's no shortage of things to do. I also have a shift at the café this afternoon to look forward to. Better hop to it!

Steve, you always impressed me as a basser. ESPECICIALLY when I played drums in your band. As fate would have its way, I Moved to Edmonton (where your favourite blueliner played but a single season for the Oilers), and we've sadly drifted. We had some good laughs and gigs and I miss you man.
This is the Hairbag signing off dude!
